I would have been happier if the adult jumper classic had been on Saturday instead of Sunday, so that I could have gone home after the adult jumper classic on Saturday. Instead, I had nothing to ride in on Saturday and nothing to do except spend more money on my hotel room. I don't like it when I have to waste a day doing nothing at a horse show. For starters- It is very hard to qualify fo any thing since we show in texas. One thing that would be nice to have would be the Ariat and State Line Tack Medals. The two biggest divisions at the horse shows are the Childrens and Adults. We get left out, always get the poor ring, bad prizes, and no money. We have the SWS Medal, but it doesnt have anything to qualify for, or even worse a work off! I spent a fortune at this past show, and the prizes were awlful. The t-shirts were alright, but i ended up getting 3 Larges and it comes to my knees. I wonder where all my money goes to because its quite apparent that it doesnt go to prizes, and i dont hardly get any money or any points. We could at least have nice prizes to show off our hard work efforts. The childrens and Adults is where you get all your money and like I said we get the worst of everything. So I will be talking to the Board and working to get back the Ariat and State Line Medal, and the prizes are unacceptable. If you dont want to spend the money on prizes, then at least give us more money for the divisions that are bringing in the most revanue. The North Texas Hunter Jumper Club gives better prizes and they dont even cost half of what Im paying. Sometimes with a trainer present and sometimes not. I think that once a young riders safety is at risk (and horse), the ring stewards should step in if the trainers choose not to. I believe this is why we have the stewards there. People were watching in aawwwing, with many commenting, "Where is the ring steward? Why don't they do anything?" This was at the Pin Oak II and Spring Gathering shows Comments: On Sunday morning the course designer was ANYTHING but prompt getting the Adult Jumper Course up for the riders to see. It was not posted until the class prior to the Adult Jumpers was already in progress. Many were wanting to walk the course prior to the previous classes start to provide warm up time for the first riders to go. It was asked repeatedly to (Mike) where was the course and he said the course designer still had it. Many were getting very fustrated and when the course designer finally came out, he had a sarcatic remark for Mike as he was questioned about it's posting and showed a very laxy-daisy attitude. Otherwise, things seemed to run very smoothly. It was nice to have the estimated start times of the classes posted. Everything was set up very nicely, including the exhibitor dinners located next to the indoor ring. I look forward to the next shows. There was no real space, and it was a major throughway for pedestrians as well as horses. The air circulation was poor, and two of our riders almost fainted from heat (one actually did) on Sunday. Other than that complaint, the show was well run, especially for the number of horses. The hunter rings ran way over so the jumpers stared late the first day. So, instead of getting after the hunters to be more on time they started eliminating jumper rides if they were not at the right with in 60 seconds of being called. I assume they did this to keep everything in a timely manner, but it was not the jumpers who had initially made the show run late in the first place. Comments: The show management was not very helpful at all when asked about problems. The courses for the jumpers were horrible, especially the jump offs when they actually had them. But when asked to move down in order of go because of trainer conflicts they could careless and were not helpful at all. That decision was made after our horses had been schooled indoors - which was way too late to make a change like that. We even ended up showing outside in the rain - which I hated with the wet grass! Comments: Spreading the show out between two covered rings and one ring in the park did not work at all. Trainers could not easily go from the park to an indoor ring so for the whole show there were always delays in at least one ring at a time and sometimes two rings. That made the show run too late (for a small turnout of horses) and really made the show less enjoyable. Rules_Checkin_Changes_Enforced: No way to enforce a time limit on the rings due to the extra show ring in the park. ShowRunSmoothly: Poorly planned out. Unacceptable late ring change. My family lives in Houston and they had no electricity and great trouble finding gas as late as Thursday. Houston residents were urged to stay away until Tuesday afternoon. I feel it was irresponsible to hold the horse show and THJA should not have supported that. At the very least exhibitors traveling in from out of town risked running out of gas and being stranded with horses in the trailer. We are supposed to promote RESPONSIBLE horse ownership.
